Fresh News from the Apple World Wide Developers Conference

Steve Jobs (Apple co-founder) was out on stage as a wave of huge applause washed through the room. He started with an update on the WWDC where there are 5200attendees from 57 countries. The conference sold out in eight days. He then stated “We apologize to folks who couldn’t be here… this is the biggest place we can get, so… anyway”. On to the nuts and bolts of the announcements. The iPad will now support PDF books as well, and he stated they are selling one every three seconds, over 2 million so far. Some nice changes to iBooks such as adding notes and bookmarks and the aforementioned PDF “bookcase”.

Now to the iPhone and big news, Netflix is adopting its iPad app over to the iPhone! No more waiting for chinese food surfing the web, and it will be free. They also have Mark Pincus from Zynga, they have ported over the bane of  Facebook (Farmville) and its available now (golf clap).

They also previewed the new iPhone, pretty amazing stuff,  ”FaceTalk” Apple’s video call technology will only work on WiFi to start with. The new phone itself is an amazing piece of technology. Front and rear cameras (5M with led flash on the back side). Dual sound canceling microphones, The metal frame of the thing is actually the antenna. All stainless steel and glass surfaces and very sexy See Apple’s site here for a video preview. The screen has 2x the resolution of previous iPhones. 326 pixels per inch, wholesome goodness. Steve goes into a lot more on the technical side, which I won’t bore you with, but do have a look for yourself.

One Million iPad Sales in Less than a Month

iPad sales over 1 million!

Apple has outdone itself with 1,000,000 iPad Sales in 28 days.

Steve Jobs may have been correct, people seem to have takes the “magical” slate to heart. Apple has sold its 1,000,000th iPad as of last friday beating the original iPhone sales time to the same mark by 46 days. Yes, it took the original iPhone 74 days to reach the 1,000,000 sold mark. Sales have been so well that they are struggling to keep up with demand. So many people really thought it would be a flop, why? I am not sure… Seems to me the iPad has a specific market and Job’s did an awesome job sliding it into that market. I can’t wait until the magazines I currently read are available at the iBook store, or through digital subscription of some sort, I might just bite the bullet and get one myself!

Over 1.5 million eBooks have been purchased from the iBookstore  as well as 12 million apps through Apples App Store. Huge numbers for a “flop”, wouldn’t you agree?  Time will tell how this little device might change the way we live, I think it will be a change for the better. Not only Greener by eliminating paper used printing magazines, but also think of the waste in printing and then trashing same said magazines and the carbon used to print, ship and recycle at a later date.

Apple Gives us a Sneak Peek at the Future of the iPhone Operating System

I have also attached a link to the original keynote address so you can watch for yourself, Steve Jobs had a keynote on April 8th and went over the success of the iPad so far and then immediately delved into the the benefits of the upcoming iPhone OS4 upgrade coming to a phone near you this summer, iPads get the same upgrade in the fall.

Included in this phenomenal upgrade are the ability to multitask up to seven apps at once, the addition of folders, super mail enhancements (especially for those with more than one account), iBooks (of course),  tap to focus on video as well as adding a 5x zoom and tap to focus on videos now.

On a side note, as of the 8th, 450,000 iPads sold, ibooks 600,000 sold, over 3.5 Million apps for the iPad downloaded. Sounds like it was a success.     Watch the Apple Keynote

$900 iPad Application, Seriously

A $900 iPad Application or “Cry-Wolf Social Marketing”

SiteClone Publisher, a new app that came out for the iPad with its release last weekend. It is an interesting app, and has quite a few possibilities. The app basically clones a website for offline reading when you have no internet access. Great idea, wrong price. One wonders if they just priced it at that level for publicity, I guess we will see if they lower its price soon. It would be a pretty creative way to use social networking and blogging to market your product for free. I mean come on, I’m even re-blogging it, right? I have seen quite a few “interesting” ways of marketing using blogs and social media sites to put in the grunt work while they reap the benefits. Is it the way marketing is headed in the future? Should we call it “cry-wolf social marketing?”  You can quote ME on that one… Who knows if this qualifies or they really want $900 for it, time will tell. For the full story on the app check out the post on Wired
