Print Industry Satire

I received a link to this in one of my various email newsletters I am inundated with on a daily basis. Working for a commercial printer and watching the industry change over the last 20 years has been very enlightening. The advent of “book readers” such as the Kindle and now the new addition of the iPad makes one think about the industry as a whole. In my personal opinion I think Newspapers and Magazines in print do have a very limited lifespan left. iPad sales on the opening day were at 300,000 units, at last look there were over 250,000 iBooks were downloaded just in the first day, 600,000 by April 8th. Trouble for the Print Industry? I think so, I think we are still a long way away from replacing business cards, letterhead, marketing collateral etc.. but many things printers do will be going the way of the do-do bird… I hope you enjoy the satire, I know i did.

“Print is Eternal” (a satire by Joe Konrath)

Moderator: Welcome to Obsolete Anonymous! I’ve gathered you all here to welcome our latest member, the Print Industry.
Print Industry: Hello, everyone. But there’s been a mistake. I don’t belong here.
(chuckles all around)
Print Industry: I’m serious. I’m not obsolete. I’m relevant. Print books have been around for hundreds of years. They’re never going to be replaced.
VHS Tapes: Yeah, we all thought like that once.
LP Records: It’s called denial. It’s tough to deal with at first.

The whole amusing story can be found here “Print is Eternal”
