A Blog to make any Designer Laugh

Trying to come up with something new for you designers out there every week can be challenging with the plethora of sites already spamming the web. Todays post will take you on a different path, the path you need most as a designer when the only response you can get from your client is “I just don’t like it” or “It’s too plain”.  So when you have that deadline looming over your head and absolutely no feedback on direction for your design, take a five minute break and browse the “Clients from Hell” Blog for a quick laugh and to realize… It could be worse!

Here is an example, enjoy:

Me: “Okay, so here are some rough concepts I’ve worked up. Once you’ve -“

Client (interrupting): “What the hell am I looking at? These look like scribbles my five-year-old could do.”

Me: “Oh, they’re just roughs to get the concept figured out, once we have that done I’ll begin work on the finished piece.”

Client: “How am I supposed to decide which illustration I like if I can’t see them all finished. Finish them and then I’ll decide which one to use.”

Me: “Well, I can certainly do that, but just so you’re aware, I will have to raise my fees to cover the cost of bringing each of these concepts to a finish.”

Client: “Who do you think you are to make demands?! I’m the client, I get to make the demands! It’s not like this is a real job anyway, all you’re doing is drawing.”

I hope you enjoy the laugh! …and when you finally finish that design from the Client from Hell make sure you bring it back here to us for printing!

Apple iPhone 4 Update

Apple Loves Us! Thats what Steve Said!

You have to love Apples use of a YouTube video at the opening of the press conference on friday (July 16, 2010)…

I was amused, then Steve popped out to fill us in on the research his team had done and presented some examples of several other smart phones doing the same thing…. antennagate? surely not!

In a nutshell the info derived from this media love-in was that Apple has sold 3,000,000 in 3 months, and in the 22 days since some blogs/people raked apple across the coals and into the fire, they have had .55% of iPhone 4 users complain, yes a little over one half percent! Another titbit, return rate for the iPhone 4 is one third of the rate for the 3GS. Clearly a sign of something wrong (with the media)! Sure, I am a Fanboy as they call us (I still prefer mac evangelist) but I try to provide straight up talk and opinion on this blog. If you want to see the data yourself pop over to apple’s website and have a look yourself! July 16 press conference

When you are done there bring your printing over to us for an awesome deal on full color brochures!!

The evolution of the FIFA World Cup Logo (1930-2014)

While looking for something design related to blog about this morning I ran across a great post on the logo blog that shows logos of all the past World cup events. I found it interesting to review as a designer. One of the few things on our planet that not only changes every year but a new country actually designs the logo. On of the amusing things to consider… how much input or rather design by committee was involved in each? I think it is pretty obvious which ones were designed by committee and in which ones the committee just trusted the designer for his skill set. There is a lot more to logo design than just a pretty picture. Consideration has to be given to usage on shirts, bumper stickers, large and small scale for premium items and much more. A link to the post on “the logo blog” is here

Once you have your logo created and ready to print come see us for your printing needs!
