Photoshop CS5 has posted up a sneak peak of the new content aware fill. It is pretty amazing, what would take hours to do manually is now done in seconds through new filter enhancements. The video here shows the depth that this new gem goes in removing small and/or large items from an image. This new filter allows you to select an area, hit the delete key and Photoshop will analyze the area surrounding your selection and fill it automatically. From the video it seems you can see a tad of artifacting but that can be fixed quickly. Can’t wait to get my hands on it.

The YouTube video is narrated by Bryan O’Neil-Hughes who is a product manager on the Photoshop team. He was able to remove things such as lens flare, light poles, trash off the grass and an entire tree that took up a large portion of the sky on the left side. Pretty amazing and looks easy to use. Good for the general population, bad for us pros! Check out the embedded video.

Come over and dig our new video (link) up in Appointment Cards, it is a nice how to on library use and designing appointment cards.
An official Apple document was leaked showing that iPhone will soon be available without a contract at Apple stores. Sources say the iPhone will still be locked, but will require no AT&T contract. It will however still require an AT&T simm card. Another stipulation is that users can only buy one iPhone a day.
At that point it’s up to you to unlock it. Apple’s prices will be $499 – iPhone 3G 8GB, $599 – iPhone 3GS 16GB, and $699 – 32GB top of the line model.
This is a brief tutorial on appointment card design by PGprint.com. Appointment card designs can be created in InDesign, we show how you can modify one layout to create a library of alternate ideas for future usage. It can be thought of as creating several InDesign templates for the next appointment card project you design.
Several reports from many news services report Google is planning to cease its China operations on April 10th. If you are not aware, this whole mess between Google and the Chinese Government started when Chinese hackers hacked their way into Gmail accounts searching for information on activists.
The New York Times reported that the hacks had been traced back to Shanghai Jiaotong University and Lanxiang Vocational School, and claimed the latter had close ties to the Chinese military. Of course both schools have denied involvement to the Chinese state run news agency. According to Reuters, the Lanxiang school representative also denied any ties to the Chinese military. Granted the story was only based on an IP address as evidence.
Google later posted, “We have decided we are no longer willing to continue censoring our results on Google.cn, and so over the next few weeks we will be discussing with the Chinese government the basis on which we could operate an unfiltered search engine within the law, if at all,” … “We recognize that this may well mean having to shut down Google.cn, and potentially our offices in China.” So this has come to fulfillment, now we see the end of Google in china.
The “Great Firewall of China” remains. Formal announcements of Google’s pullout have not been made as of yet. It has at least sparked an acknowledgment in the international community regarding censorship of the world wide web, where it goes from here will be interesting to follow.
for more information just search: china google, there are articles all over with various opinions.

Usually if its too good to be true, it is. Marc Delphine’s Senate campaign (in Oregon) had this happen to them. This is one very clear reason to use a professional that has understanding of copyright, copyright infringement or trademark law. If you are a professional and you don’t. tsk tsk tsk! do your homework! Google if you need to, now back to the real story. It is a little fishy… supposedly a volunteer associated with the campaigns web site developer came up with he logo. A wonderful silver star with a star spangled banner wrapped around it and shaped like a D, perfect for branding! Well, perfect except for the fact that is is full on copyright infringement against the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets. see logo comparison below.
As you can see the Delphine logo is just a slightly modified and flopped version of the Blue Jackets logo, where before the logo formed a C for Columbus, he flopped it and ta-da its a D for Delphine! It doesn’t even look like he bothered to re-draw the thing its almost an exact copy except for two slight differences. If you want more on the story see the original article I saw that sparked my interest here. I think the big question is, was it on purpose? It has certainly gotten the Columbus Blue Jackets and Marc Delphine’s campaign for Senate much more attention, even nationally, that it would have ever gotten without the logo debacle. If it was just a marketing ploy between the two organizations (gotta love a conspiracy theory) you have to admit it did a good job garnering attention. If it was just a screw up, it can be summed up in one word… Fail.

Adobe Photoshop users around the world are celebrating the 20th anniversary, and now in 27 languages. Photoshop has been around the graphic design scene as long as I have… maybe a little longer! I still have a copy of version 2.5 at in my home office somewhere. The special site Adobe has set up has a great video worth watching that talks about the origins and has the original designers on hand to talk about the past and the future. It is worth a look, but I will admit a little on the geeky side here is a [LINK] I hope you enjoy it!
Fro those not aware of Adobe’s web presence, they have a great section on the main site called the design center. (find it here) Featured designers, tutorials, a plethora of useful pages. If you want to try something new and different and don’t own a copy of the full program try out photoshop.com which gives you quite a few editing options, has a slick iphone app interface and also doubles as an image storage site. I have used Flickr for years but it does lack the cool tools and built in editing capabilities of photoshop.com, I think Flickr has a little better deal storage-wise.

Wheel of an 18th or 19th century sailing ship in the Baltic Sea - photo credit Nord Stream/AP
I love to post up the occasional link to an interesting subject/article I run across. I found this particular tidbit and it reminded me of how little we actually know about what lay under the glassy surface of the oceans of our world.
In Stockholm, Sweden, the Nord Stream consortium was in the process of building a 750 mile pipeline in the Baltic Sea. During the search of the seabed they discovered 12 wrecks in a 30 mile long 1.2 mile wide corridor. Some of the wrecks are said to be in a very well preserved state and fully intact. 3 of these intact ships are lying on the ocean floor at a depth of 430 feet, and are considered to be of high historical value. Luckily the Baltic Sea is one of the places on our planet that does not contain the ship worm that destroys wooden wrecks in saltier oceans. It is a rare find indeed.
On a side note the consortium also stated they found scores of other objects as well including 80 sea mines and a washing machine, ok…
