Medal count! Currently the United States leads in Medals with 8 Gold, 12 Silver and 12 Bronze medals followed by Germany with 8, 11, 7 respectively.
One story that stood out to me so far in the Vancouver Olympics was of the German female biathlon team, typically 5 on a team and 4 compete in the relay. After winning 2 silver medals Magdalena Neuner of the German team decided to pull out and let Martina Beck have a run at a medal in the 4×6km relay. Beck was having coffee with her husband to fight of the frustration of not being able to compete. “And then Magdalena called me to tell me about her decision, and that she really wants me to have this occasion and really believes in my abilities. It was overwhelming.” She performed amazingly well and was in second in her leg of the race. They wound up taking the bronze medal in the event. Who would have thought throwing snowballs could land you in jail on felony charges. Two college students in Virginia learned the hard way! The two students, Charles Gill and Ryan Knight, both 21, were captured by the police in Harrisonburg, where they attend James Madison University. Their first target was a city snow plow and the driver called the police. When the unmarked police car showed up on the scene the students unloaded on them as well. If convicted of the snowball tossing (Felony!), the students each face a maximum $2,500 fine AND between one and five years in prison.

The opposite also holds true, the more hours we stay awake the more sluggish our brains become. An escaped zebra galloped along a busy section of the interstate with police in hot pursuit Thursday turning it into a real Circus. The zebra (from the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus) escaped from a handler and was spotted in random parts of downtown Atlanta before heading over to the Downtown Connector, where Interstates 85 and 75 merge together through downtown Atlanta.
The animal was captured near where the interstate curves by Grady Hospital. It took Five or six police cars to box the zebra in and then handlers corralled it into a truck. Luckily this event didn’t effect any of our local deliveries, How does the saying go… Neither rain, nor snow, nor Zebra…?

Today at 7:00 am the best known party in New Orleans kicked off. This is sure to be one of the wildest Mardi Gras ever considering just last week the Saints brought a 31-17 victory over the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV. Keep your eyes on the news and go catch some beads.
There are sure to be Mardi Gras parties everywhere in every city this year. I know here in the Atlanta burbs Henry’s Louisiana Grill and Copeland’s always have big parties due to the New Orleans and or Cajun food affiliation. Bleed is one of the most important factors in any successful design. If you don’t factor it in, it can ruin your design. First lets explain bleed. Wikipedia defines bleed as “printing that goes beyond the edge of the sheet after trimming.” To be more specific with an example if you have an image or a background color that goes to the edge of your printed page, the bleed is the portion of that color and/or image that goes beyond the trim.
The standard amount of bleed in offset printing is 1/8 inch. This amount allows the printer a little variance during the bindery and trimming functions. Documents are typically cut in stacks of hundreds so the trim can vary slightly. Bleed allows for this variance so raw white paper doesn’t show on the edge of your design.
